Hydraulic Cylinder
Force from pressure and area, and speed from pump flow, for a double-acting hydraulic cylinder — the first check when selecting a cylinder and designing the circuit.
Push force F₁49.88kN
- Pull force F₂
- 33.59 kN
- Extend speed v₁
- 106.9 mm/s
- Retract speed v₂
- 158.8 mm/s
- Piston area A₁
- 31.17 cm²
- Annulus area A₂
- 20.99 cm²
- Area ratio φ = A₁ / A₂
- 1.48
- Hydraulic power p·Q
- 5.33 kW
- Ideal values — allow 90–95 % efficiency for seal friction and leakage
METHOD
How it is calculated
A₁ = π·D² / 4 A₂ = π·(D² − d²) / 4 F = p · A (1 bar = 0.1 N/mm²) v = Q / A
ASSUMPTIONS & NOTES
- Seal friction and leakage bring the real force to about 90–95 % of the ideal value.
- Check the rod for Euler buckling on long-stroke cylinders.
Results are for preliminary design and checking; base the final design on the governing standard and safety factors.
