Linear Interpolation
Linear estimate of a value between two table entries. Default example: enthalpy of saturated steam (100 → 120 °C).
y2,690.8
- Slope (y₂ − y₁) / (x₂ − x₁)
- 1.52
- Position
- Inside the interval (interpolation)
- x lies between the two points
METHOD
How it is calculated
y = y₁ + (y₂ − y₁) · (x − x₁) / (x₂ − x₁)
ASSUMPTIONS & NOTES
- Keep the interval narrow for strongly curved quantities; avoid extrapolation.
Results are for preliminary design and checking; base the final design on the governing standard and safety factors.
