Sprayer Calibration
How much spray liquid a field sprayer applies per area. Correct calibration saves chemicals and makes the treatment work. Rates are per decare (1 da = 1000 m² = 0.1 ha); the hectare figure is shown too.

- Total boom flow
- 28.8 L/min
- Area per tank
- 25 da
- Theoretical work rate
- 72 da/h
- Catch each nozzle for 1 minute in a jug; nozzles should agree within 10 %
METHOD
How it is calculated
Rate [L/da] = 60 · q / (v · w) q [L/min] = Rate · v · w / 60 w: nozzle spacing (m), v: forward speed (km/h)
ASSUMPTIONS & NOTES
- Measure speed in the field: if 100 m takes t seconds, v = 360 / t km/h.
- Nozzle flow varies with the square root of pressure; to raise flow by 10 % raise pressure by ≈ 21 %.
- Replace worn nozzles (more than 10 % above rated flow).
Results are for preliminary design and checking; base the final design on the governing standard and safety factors.
