Heat Conduction
Steady one-dimensional conduction without internal heat generation (Fourier's law). Heat loss and thermal resistance for flat walls and pipe insulation.
Heat flow Q175,000W
- Heat flux q
- 175,000 W/m²
- Thermal resistance R
- 0.001 K/W
- Temperature difference ΔT
- 175 K
METHOD
How it is calculated
Flat wall: R = t / (k·A) Q = ΔT / R Cylinder: R = ln(r₂ / r₁) / (2π·k·L) Multi-layer: R_total = ΣR_i
ASSUMPTIONS & NOTES
- Surface temperatures are assumed known; convective resistances (1/hA) are not included.
- For layered walls add the R of each layer: Q = ΔT_total / R_total.
- See the reference tables for thermal conductivities.
Results are for preliminary design and checking; base the final design on the governing standard and safety factors.
