Power Factor Correction

Raising the power factor by supplying the reactive power of inductive loads from capacitors — avoids reactive-energy penalties and reduces line current and losses.

METHOD

How it is calculated

Q_c = P · (tan φ₁ − tan φ₂)
C_Δ = Q_c / (3 · 2πf · U²)      C_Y = 3 · C_Δ
ASSUMPTIONS & NOTES
  • In Türkiye the inductive reactive / active energy ratio must stay below 20 % and the capacitive ratio below 15 %, i.e. cos φ ≈ 0.98.
  • Use detuned (reactor-filtered) banks where harmonics are present to avoid resonance.

Results are for preliminary design and checking; base the final design on the governing standard and safety factors.
